Lyra Trio PDX

Sharing excellence, beauty, nature, and Pacific Northwestern values through music

Amelia Lukas, flute

Amanda Grimm, viola

Matthew Tutsky, harp

lush, elegant, & unexpected

Bringing together the rare and luminous combination of flute, viola, and harp, this newly formed trio unites three of the Pacific Northwest’s most respected musicians: Powell Flutes Artist Amelia Lukas, Principal Viola of the Oregon Symphony Amanda Grimm, and Principal Harpist of the Oregon Symphony Matthew Tutsky. The only ensemble of its kind in the region, the group creates a sound world that is at once lush, elegant, and unexpected—drawing listeners into performances that are equal parts soulful, refined, and adventurous. With roots in the natural beauty and creative spirit of the Pacific Northwest, the trio shares music that feels both timeless and modern, offering audiences a transcendent and heartfelt experience that reflects the artistry and values of their home. Their concerts celebrate excellence and beauty while offering audiences a richly embodied experience—music that is indulgent yet organic, graceful yet adventurous, and always infused with the sense of wonder and connection that only live performance can create.

The trio debuted by performing Debussy’s iconic Trio Sonata for Chamber Music Northwest as the capstone performance of the 2025 Oregon Music Educators Association Chamber Music Competition.

An Elemental Nature

The ensemble’s inaugural full concert experience draws on the elements of wind, water, fire, and earth - visceral by intention. Weaving together shimmering colors and textures that range from intimate and poetic to bold and edgy, the program creates a space within which audiences can connect more fully to the elements that surround and exist within us all.

This music reflects the trio’s shared vision, rooted in the values and natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, where refinement meets freshness, and timeless traditions are reimagined in ways that feel modern, soulful, and deeply heartfelt.

Featuring masterpieces by Kaija Saariaho and Toru Takemitsu alongside brand new works by Nancy Ives and Sal Wallin, with a new arrangement by Deena T. Grossman.
